Job Title: Senior Architect
Reports to: Principal
Job Description:
The candidate must hold a professional degree in Architecture and have a minimum of 10 years of related experience. The Senior Architect serves as the firm’s senior technical authority on assigned projects and is fully accountable for design quality and technical execution. This position can be relied upon to present directly to clients on complex technical and design solutions. The Senior Architect works closely with the Project Manager to execute project plans and coordinates with the Principal to directly supervise the team’s design direction, technical delivery, and overall project performance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- As a vital component of the design team, develop original and creative design concepts, ideas, and solutions for complex and high-profile projects.
- Prepare and oversee detailed working drawings for the construction of new construction and for the restoration, repairs, or adaptive-reuse of existing structures.
- Assume personal responsibility for technical problem-solving, coordination of the internal architectural team, consultants and contractors, and jurisdictional and other external-party constituencies through Contract Documents and Construction Administration phases.
- Research laws and codes in conjunction with projects; establish construction schedules; establish and coordinate work sequence; supervise and inspect construction of projects.
- Initiate work assignments for assigned staff and review architectural plans and specifications prepared by staff or by contract architects and engineers to verify compliance with federal and State laws, district requirements, and budget restraints.
- Prepare hands-on and direct architectural staff in the production of project drawings, studies, and budgets, leading to permit and contract documents.
- Conduct and direct field activities during construction, including oversight of construction administration services.
- Formulate and deliver presentations to clients, and jurisdictional and neighborhood constituencies, serving as the primary design representative when required.
- Provide overall project management leadership, including work-planning, staffing, scheduling, and responsibility for project deliverables.
- Lead client communications, including contract administration adjustments, definition of project priorities and objectives, and coordination of architect and client components of key deliverables.
- Make complex calculations involved in design specifications and oversee technical review processes.
- Write or revise specifications and approve final technical documentation prior to issuance.
- Assist in managing client expectations, team communication and consultant coordination, resolving conflicts and technical disputes as necessary.
- Provide weekly project status reporting to the firm’s Principal and Controller.
- Participate in the evaluation and pursuit of new projects and support business development efforts, including strategic input during go/no-go decisions.
- Maintain a high level of ethics, integrity, and reliability in the execution of all tasks assigned.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Produce construction-ready documents for contractors and permitting agencies.
- Advanced knowledge of the Florida Building Code and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Knowledge of architectural and engineering nomenclature, symbols, customs, and practices.
- Knowledge of governmental organization, operations, policies and objectives.
- Contribute to office libraries / AutoCAD standards and suggest changes to workflows.
- Prepare specifications and drawings using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Flexibility to focus on concurrent projects in various stages of development.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Meet schedules and timelines.
- Prepare and present reports and formal client presentations.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in the evaluation and pursuit of new projects, with an interest in market-based and research-based business development.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate assigned personnel.
- Must be a U.S Citizen.
- Must be fluent in both written and spoken English; Spanish is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of historic preservation standards, briefs, and regulatory frameworks, including the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and associated technical guidance.
- Experience with historic tax credit programs and preservation compliance documentation.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Architecture, Design, Historic Preservation, or a related discipline.
- Must be actively pursuing or have Architectural Licensure in the United States.
- 10 + years’ experience in AutoCAD and Revit.
- 10 + years’ experience with Microsoft Outlook, Office, including Word, Excel and Project.
- Knowledge of Adobe Suite.
Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
