Summary: Onix is seeking an experienced Senior Data Architect/Principal Data Engineer that will play a key role in designing and implementing data solutions that meet client business needs and support the overall cloud data architecture. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Lakehouse Architecture, data modeling, and data management, with a significant focus on data warehouse/Lakehouse design and development. The candidate will have experience in cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, and GCP.

Location: Remote, United States

Primary Responsibilities

1. Lead the design, development, and implementation of Lakehouse & data warehouses architecture in a cloud-based data environment that integrates with an overall data architecture.
2. Work closely with business stakeholders to interpret their data needs and translate them into technical requirements.
3. Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures, ensuring data quality and integrity through testing and validation processes.
4. Deploy and debug cloud data initiatives in accordance with best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
5. Manage cloud data environments following security guidelines.
6. Design and build reusable, scalable solutions and components for future use.
7. Lead and mentor a team of data engineers to implement solution designs.
8. Stay updated on trends and technologies in data and AI/ML fields, and educate teams accordingly.
9. Collaborate with teams to automate deployments and reduce manual efforts.
10. Consult on professional services engagements to assist clients with data warehouse solutions and establish best practices.
11. Present project designs, outcomes, and recommendations to clients.
12. Employ problem-solving skills to proactively address issues.
13. Lead orchestration and automation of cloud-based data platforms.

Preferred Skills And Experience

1. 7+ years experience in Data Architecture, data engineering & analytics, including performance tuning and pipeline integration.
2. 10+ years of consulting experience.
3. Certifications such as Databricks Data Engineering Professional/Associate or Cloud Certifications (Azure, AWS, GCP).
4. Deep expertise in at least one cloud ecosystem (AWS, Azure, GCP).
5. Experience with distributed computing using Spark, including Spark runtime internals & Spark Structured Streaming.
6. Knowledge of MLOps architecture for building, training, and deploying models.
7. Familiarity with Databricks platform features, performance optimization, and scalability techniques.
8. Experience with data pipelining tools like Databricks Delta Live Tables and DBT.
9. Proficiency with terraform, Git, CI/CD, automation, and testing tools.
10. Thorough understanding of Databricks Delta, Iceberg, and Hudi.
11. Best practices in Spark, including notebook and cluster management.
12. Data ingestion, quality enforcement, and understanding of CDC, CDF, SCD types.
13. Knowledge of Unity Catalog and Databricks governance/security models.
14. Experience with Databricks REST APIs, SCIM API, and DBX CLI.

Education

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.

Travel Expectation

Up to 15% travel.
