Job summary

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Archaeologist to lead complex cultural resources projects across the United States. You will mentor staff, manage multi-state efforts, and drive client relationships while ensuring high-quality regulatory deliverables in environmental and sustainability contexts.

Ideal candidates hold an advanced degree in Anthropology/Archaeology with RPA certification, extensive field oversight, and experience producing agency-reviewed reports.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 6–8 years of related paid experience.
  • RPA status with Secretary of the Interior qualifications.
  • Field leadership with inventory, survey, testing, or data recovery.
  • Experience as primary author or reviewer on agency-reviewed reports (NEPA, Class I/III).
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agency personnel as a consultant.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a permitted BLM Principal Investigator for projects.
  • Obtain required federal and state permits for projects and opportunities.
  • Provide QA/QC review of deliverables by other archaeologists.
  • Oversee desktop studies and field investigations (surveys, testing, excavations).
  • Lead and manage archaeologists across experience levels including hiring and mentoring.
  • Coordinate with senior leaders to support performance and delivery.
