Job summary

The City of Poway’s Community Services Department seeks a Senior Lifeguard to ensure safety in pool areas and supervise staff and events. You will supervise lifeguards, coordinate swim lessons with the Red Cross, and lead training for part-time staff and volunteers.

The position requires lifeguarding experience and multiple American Red Cross certifications, with six months to obtain specific trainings post-hire. Work involves outdoor conditions, varied shifts, and basic facility maintenance.

Qualifications

• Six months of lifeguarding experience.
• Must possess American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.
• Must obtain First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) within six months of hire.
• Must obtain Lifeguarding Instructor certification within six months of hire.
• Must obtain Water Safety Instructor certification within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Acts as lifeguard during pool hours and events.
• Instructs swim lessons with the local American Red Cross unit; assess participants and place classes.
• Assists with training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating part-time staff and volunteers.
• Supervises and assigns staff during shifts in the absence of management.
• Develops and coordinates aquatics programs and lessons, purchases supplies as needed.
• Responds to first aid emergencies and administers basic first aid or CPR.
