Job summary

Anoka County in Minnesota seeks a Senior Appraiser to assess commercial, industrial, and apartment properties, perform on-site inspections, and prepare detailed appraisal reports for fair and equitable tax assessments.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree with 4+ years’ experience and licenses (CMA-IQ/AMA or equivalent). Hybrid scheduling may be available after probation, with a valid driver’s license and background check.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of job-related experience.
• Possess an Income Qualified – Certified Minnesota Assessor License (CMA-IQ).
• Alternative education/experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
• Must successfully pass a driver’s license background check.

Responsibilities

• Examine and evaluate property to establish fair market value for taxation.
• Perform on-site inspections to determine property condition.
• View and inspect parcels to detect changes from prior assessments.
• Verify property classification and land type breakdown for accuracy.
• Provide information on assessment laws, valuation procedures, homesteading, and classification.
• Communicate with taxpayers regarding sensitive financial matters.
• Monitor real estate trends in surrounding properties.
• Handle negotiations and preparations for tax court and BOE appeals.
• Prepare and update field notes documenting changes from previous assessments.
• Provide reports on appraisals and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Offer leadership, coaching, and mentoring to junior staff.
