Job summary

Hennepin County seeks a Senior Commercial Appraiser to estimate market value and set classifications for commercial, industrial, and apartment properties for tax purposes. The role combines field work with remote duties, requiring travel within the county and attendance at on-site inspections as needed.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of experience in commercial/industrial/apartment appraising and/or complex residential property appraising.
• CMA certification required within two years of employment; AMA licensure within five years.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the metro area.
• Ability to travel across Hennepin County for field work and meetings.
• Ability to conduct field measurements and navigate uneven terrains.

Responsibilities

• Participate in mass commercial/industrial and apartment appraisals by viewing and recording physical characteristics of buildings and land.
• Verify and analyze sales, leases, and various other business and real estate documents.
• Prepare appraisals for commercial/industrial and apartment properties for reevaluations, abatements, review boards, assessment cycle, and tax court petitions using three traditional approaches to valuation.
• Meet with attorneys and taxpayers to discuss and prepare court testimony.
• Respond to taxpayers' questions and inquiries regarding assessment laws and procedures, valuation inquiries, and appraisal practices.
