Job summary

Hennepin County is seeking a Senior Commercial Appraiser to estimate market value and set classifications for commercial, industrial, apartments, and specialty-use real estate across the county for tax purposes.

The role requires mass appraisal expertise, ability to handle complex valuations, and interaction with attorneys and taxpayers in court proceedings. A CMA certification must be obtained within two years, with relocation to Minnesota or Wisconsin as needed.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of experience in commercial/industrial/apartment appraising and/or complex residential property appraising.
• Certified Minnesota Assessor CMA certification required within 2 years of employment. AMA licensure within 5 years.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for metro-area travel.
• Ability to travel across Hennepin County for field work and meetings.

Responsibilities

• Participate in mass commercial/industrial and apartment appraisals by viewing and recording building and land characteristics.
• Verify and analyze sales, leases, and other real estate documents.
• Prepare appraisals for commercial/industrial and apartment properties for reevaluations, abatements, review boards, assessments, and tax court petitions using three traditional approaches.
• Meet with attorneys and taxpayers to discuss and prepare court testimony.
• Respond to taxpayers' questions regarding assessment laws, valuation inquiries, and appraisal practices.
