Sustainability Science and Innovation Team

This multi-disciplinary team combines science, analytics, economics, statistics, machine learning, product development, and engineering to address long-term sustainability challenges.

Position: Senior Applied Scientist

We seek an experienced Senior Applied Scientist to analyze complex datasets, develop scientific tools, and inform strategies across carbon, waste, and water management. The role involves leading science-driven data approaches and collaborating on projects aligned with Amazon’s sustainability vision.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and develop scientific scripts to solve complex problems and extract insights from large datasets.
2. Influence stakeholders through effective communication and technical artifacts.
3. Communicate work to senior leaders and the scientific community.
4. Collaborate with software engineering teams to implement scientific models.
5. Lead strategic sustainability initiatives and scale high-value projects.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of experience.
• 3+ years of experience framing research problems and driving scientific agendas.
• Proven ability to design end-to-end scientific solutions and deploy them in production.
• Hands-on experience with advanced machine learning and large-scale data processing.
• Expertise in sustainability modeling, emissions forecasting, or environmental impact assessment.
• Experience leading scientific reviews, mentoring, and influencing organizational strategy.
• Publication record in relevant conferences or journals.
