Job description

Improve the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the operations that power the global economy.

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.

Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, Equipment Monitoring, and Site Visibility. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

About the role:

We are looking for a strategic, results-oriented leader to drive Samsara’s NPI planning process and manage supply chain fiscal strategy to meet revenue and cost targets. You will lead a team that owns product lifecycle support and new product introduction, financial accountability, and strategic initiatives aimed at improving operational processes.

The ideal candidate for this role has a proven track record of managing product lifecycles and is a strategic problem solver/influencer at all levels of the organization. You see the big picture and look holistically at how each piece fits into a larger customer lifecycle experience, understanding the financial impacts of decisions from a gross margin, COGS, cash flow, and accounting perspective. You excel at partnering across the organization and have the intellectual curiosity to deeply understand Samsara’s product suite and the solution set for customers.

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US except the San Francisco Bay Metro Area, NYC Metro Area, and Washington, D.C. Metro Area.

You should apply if:
  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won’t be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment.
  • You’re energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.
  • You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-calibre team that will encourage you to do your best.
In this role, you will:
  • Own cross-functional communication on hardware product launch dates in conjunction with the sustaining Demand Planning team, setting plans that consider go to market factors and minimize E&O exposure.
  • Communicate to leadership regarding overall NPI program health, changes in business trends, and risks & opportunities to the plan of record.
  • Manage average selling price (ASP) forecasts, discounting trends, and deal cycle analytics that feed into sustaining Demand Planning team, collaborating on insights and areas of opportunity.
  • Identify synergies and areas of opportunity to drive revenue improvement by geography and sales segmentation.
  • Liaise with F&S team on long term financial outlook (i.e. revenue, cash flow, warranty, and E&O), aligning on budget specifics that support company objectives and managing operations within budget guidelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing data-driven insights to support strategic decisions and gaining buy-in from key executive stakeholders (e.g. Procurement cost drivers and Product roadmaps).
  • Scope and own high impact projects that don’t fit neatly within one team’s scope, ensuring holistic solutions that drive top and bottom line impact.
  • Establish a deep understanding of Samsara’s business, products, and company priorities to assist Demand Planners and Supply Planners with insights for new programs/features, customer trends, and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in developing the Planning strategic roadmap, measuring and reporting progress on programs in flight and improving processes based on a comprehensive understanding of Samsara's mission and strategic goal.
  • Cultivate long-term relationships with key stakeholders and customers, understanding their needs and how Samsara can meet them.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
  • Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team.
Minimum requirements for the role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant analytical field (e.g. finance/economics/mathematics/computer science/data science). 10+ years experience in forecasting, demand planning, financial planning, or similar function, with at least 3+ years directly managing teams.
  • Proven ability to attract and hire top talent, with a passion for coaching, mentoring, and developing others, using a humble leadership approach to drive a high-performing team.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to quickly synthesize information in a digestible format for a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior leadership, across different media.
  • Excellent team player who values other views and can earn stakeholder confidence quickly, exerting influence to drive priorities and deliver results.
  • An inquisitive mindset to business challenges, looking to question assumptions and bring creativity to solve problems.
  • Familiarity with NPI launches and previous experience with Product and Engineering teams.
  • Overall understanding of levers that drive free cash flow and gross margin.
An ideal candidate also has:
  • MBA or other Master’s degree.
