Job summary

The Boeing Company is seeking a Senior Applied Mathematician to provide technical leadership in numerical algorithms, neural networks, machine learning, and data processing across advanced development programs in Berkeley, MO. The role requires on-site work with up to 10% travel and security clearances.

You will lead mathematical research, develop complex algorithms, process large datasets, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions meet performance and integration

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement 9+ of related work experience and a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of related work experience and technical education
  • 3+ years in a lead role
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience with neural networks and machine learning model development
  • 5+ years of experience with a high-level programming language such as Python or C++.

Position Overview

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Phantom Works organization in Berkeley, Missouri is seeking a Senior Applied Mathematician to provide technical leadership in numerical algorithm development, neural network design, machine learning applications, and data processing techniques across advanced development programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leads mathematical research and contributes to the research strategy for the organization
  • Lead the development of complex algorithms to support program needs
  • Prepare, process, and interpret large data sets into actionable metrics
  • Support development of test methodologies, validation plans, and correlation studies for simulation-to-measurement agreement
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure solutions are compatible with performance, manufacturability, maintainability, and integration requirements
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, design documentation, and briefing materials for internal stakeholders and customer reviews
Location and Travel

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at Berkeley, MO. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; domestically and/or internationally depending on business needs.

Security Clearance

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship, Post start. An interim or final U.S. Top-Secret Clearance Post-Start is required. This position requires the ability to obtain Special Program Access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement 9+ of related work experience and a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of related work experience and technical education
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience with neural networks and machine learning model development
  • 5+ years of experience with a high-level programming language such as Python or C++.
  • 3+ years in a lead role
Preferred Qualifications
  • An Active Security Clearance
  • Working knowledge of electromagnetic theory as it applies to RCS reduction and signature control
  • Experience correlating CEM predictions with laboratory and range measurement data
  • Strong technical communication skills, including formal reports, presentations, and customer-facing briefings
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering environments and manage multiple concurrent technical tasks to schedule
