Job summary

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Phantom Works at Berkeley, Missouri is seeking a Senior Applied Mathematician to lead numerical algorithms, neural networks, ML, and data processing across advanced programs. This onsite role requires coordinating with engineering teams and delivering metrics and reports for internal and customer reviews.

Ideal candidates have a BS in a related field, 9+ years of experience, 3+ years with neural networks/ML, and 5+ years in Python or C++.

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Phantom Works organization in Berkeley, Missouri is seeking a Senior Applied Mathematician to provide technical leadership in numerical algorithm development, neural network design, machine learning applications, and data processing techniques across advanced development programs.


Position Responsibilities:
  • Leads mathematical research and contributes to the research strategy for the organization
  • Lead the development of complex algorithms to support program needs
  • Prepare, process, and interpret large data sets into actionable metrics
  • Support development of test methodologies, validation plans, and correlation studies for simulation-to-measurement agreement
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure solutions are compatible with performance, manufacturability, maintainability, and integration requirements
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, design documentation, and briefing materials for internal stakeholders and customer reviews

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at Berkeley, MO.


Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically and/or internationally depending on business needs.


This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship, Post start. An interim or final U.S. Top-Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.


This position requires the ability to obtain Special Program Access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.


Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 9+ of related work experience and a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of related work experience and technical education
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience with neural networks and machine learning model development
  • 5+ years of experience with a high‑level programming language such as Python or C++.
  • 3+ years in a lead role

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):
  • An Active Security Clearance
  • Working knowledge of electromagnetic theory as it applies to RCS reduction and signature control
  • Experience correlating CEM predictions with laboratory and range measurement data
  • Strong technical communication skills, including formal reports, presentations, and customer-facing briefings
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering environments and manage multiple concurrent technical tasks to schedule

Summary pay range: $148,750 - $201,250
