Job summary

Demandbase, Inc. is seeking an Applied AI Scientist (Staff level) to bridge research and product. You design grounding and context assembly, orchestrate multi-step reasoning, and ship production-grade AI systems that reason over accounts, people, and activity. This is a hybrid SF Bay Area role, partnering with product and engineering.

You’ll contribute to architecture, own components, and mentor teams while delivering research-informed features with customer impact.

Qualifications

• PhD in CS, ML, NLP, IR, or a related field is required.
• 7+ years in applied ML, NLP, IR, or ranking with recent hands-on ownership of LLM and agentic systems.
• Shipped LLM or RAG-style systems into production and managed their reliability, latency, and monitoring.
• Built and owned agentic or multi-step orchestration (tool use, routing, planning).
• Strong coding ability and comfort in a production codebase.
• Solid experimentation and evaluation rigor: offline evals, A/B tests, causal thinking.
• IC5 signals: led technical direction across teams and influenced peers.

Responsibilities

• Design grounding and context assembly: retrieval pipelines, context selection, query understanding.
• Improve orchestration and reasoning across multi-step workflows: tool use, routing, decomposition, evaluation.
• Build structured representations that help the system reason over accounts, people, and activity.
• Bring research-grade rigor to ambiguous problems, then translate into production-ready capabilities.
• Raise technical rigor: share patterns, mentor, and accelerate decisions across teams.
