Job summary

Form Energy is hiring a Staff AI Platform Engineer to build a shared platform for AI-powered tools across the company. You will shape runtime, knowledge systems, and governance tooling, collaborating with data engineers, software engineers, and security teams.

The role is hybrid, onsite in Berkeley with potential locations, requiring 3+ days on site. You will guide model selection, cost control, and agent orchestration to enable scalable AI workloads across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of software or data engineering experience building/operating production platforms.
• Experience with Python and Go and building APIs/backend services.
• Hands-on with LLM-powered systems, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, and semantic search.
• Knowledge of security, authentication, and governance for internal platforms.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate internal platform for AI-generated apps with curated frameworks and secure deployment.
• Provide data access to data warehouse and shared Postgres cluster for app state.
• Develop a central knowledge platform over unstructured and structured data with semantic search.
• Design and deploy MCP infrastructure including gateway layer for auth, rate limiting, and auditing.
• Evaluate models (open-source/open-weight) and optimize token usage and cost.
• Create agent orchestration layer with multi-agent workflows and state machines.
• Collaborate with product, battery design, manufacturing, and root cause analysis teams to automate repeatable work.
• Instrument platform with tracing, usage, and cost attribution; stand up AWS infra via Pulumi/Terraform.
• Promote AI governance and run RFCs, code reviews, and mentorship.
