Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an experienced AI-focused engineer to take business problems and translate them into end-to-end AI-enabled solutions. You will own the discovery, design, build, validation, and operation of capabilities, working with stakeholders and executives to ensure practical, evidence-based outcomes.

The role requires hands-on delivery, mentorship of engineers new to AI, and ongoing knowledge of models, tooling, and observability.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building and shipping production software.
• 1 year hands-on experience with large language models including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, tool use, and agent patterns.
• Ability to own a capability end to end from ambiguous requirements to production use.

Responsibilities

• Lead requirements conversations with business and technical stakeholders, covering workflow, decision criteria, and success metrics.
• Define the technical approach and defend the AI pattern best suited to the problem.
• Recommend against AI when simpler solutions exist (rules, processes, interfaces).
• Define measurable success criteria before building (accuracy targets, thresholds, acceptance).
• Build the complete capability end to end: prompts, retrieval, tools, API integration, UI, and governance.
• Develop evaluation sets from real data and iterate on results before deployment.
• Make architecture decisions balancing quality, cost, latency, security, and authorization.
• Operationalize capabilities with governance, logging, and drift monitoring.
