Job summary

Electric Reliability Council of Texas seeks a senior software developer to design, develop, test, document and maintain complex ERCOT applications. You will work with customers, business area SMEs, and cross-functional teams to implement scalable solutions aligned with the ERCOT SDLC.

Qualifications include strong Java/SpringBoot experience, containerized development with Docker/OpenShift/Kubernetes, and CI/CD practices. Minimum 5 years senior or 8 years lead experience required.

Job description

Job Summary

Design, code, test, document and maintain applications to meet ERCOT business needs based on the ERCOT defined Software Development Life Cycle. Work closely with customers, business area subject matter experts, team members and other internal technical teams to design, develop and maintain complex ERCOT applications in support of market needs and internal corporate requirements. Use toolsets that adhere to the frameworks of the technical stack used across the Application Services division and ensure products and solutions comply with the organization’s architectural standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, document and maintain complex ERCOT applications that support market needs and internal corporate requirements.
• Work closely with customers, business area subject matter experts, team members and other internal technical teams to design and implement solutions.
• Apply all phases of the product development lifecycle: analysis, design, testing, integration, deployment, and post‑release support.
• Research, evaluate and incorporate new technologies, frameworks and tools to improve product development and delivery.
• Maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, API documentation, and design specifications.
• Provide technical guidance and mentor junior developers, and, when required, lead project teams.
• Collect and analyze development metrics (e.g., cycle time, code quality), and contribute to the continuous improvement of the development process.
• Work with architects, usability engineers, project managers, and end users to ensure quality product delivery.
• Respond to customer complaints and support enhancement suggestions, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Experience with modern integration patterns/event‑based architectures (messaging/streaming).
• Strong Java experience (Java17/21/25) and modern SpringBoot (3.x, 4.x).
• Container‑based development (Docker, OpenShift, Azure Kubernetes Service) and DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, automation).
• Experience building, scaling, and troubleshooting high‑volume, high‑performance data handling applications.
• Relational database experience (SQLServer, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or similar).
• Minimum5years (senior) or8years (lead) of related professional experience beyond degree requirements.

Preferred Experience

• ApacheKafka, JMS/AMQP.
• Kubernetes, OpenShift, Azure Kubernetes Service.
• Fedora OS family and container tooling (Docker Desktop, Docker Compose).
• Configuration management / provisioning (Ansible, Terraform).
• GitHub Actions and other CI tools.
• Azure or other cloud platform experience.
• Strong SQL and database tuning skills.

Work Location

On‑site in Taylor, TX, minimum2days per week. Remote work permitted from Texas residency; flexible schedules based on business needs.

Compensation

Expected salary range: $109,000–$150,000 per year.
