Job summary

ALTEN Technology USA is seeking an experienced API Technical Writer to lead the creation, maintenance, and evolution of API documentation. You’ll work with engineers, product teams, and solution experts to ensure accuracy and clarity across endpoints, authentication methods, samples, and release notes.

You’ll translate complex concepts into user-friendly content, establish documentation standards, manage a backlog, and contribute tutorials, onboarding guides, diagrams, and knowledge base

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an API Technical Writer or similar role focused on software documentation.
• Experience creating and maintaining API documentation for technical and developer audiences.
• Strong understanding of APIs, web services, software development concepts, and integration workflows.
• Ability to translate complex information into concise, user-friendly documentation.
• Experience collaborating with developers, architects, product teams, and other technical stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects independently.
• Familiarity with documentation standards, tools, CMS, and developer portals.

Responsibilities

• Create, maintain, and improve API documentation including endpoints, parameters, authentication, sample code, errors, FAQs, onboarding guides, and release notes.
• Translate complex technical concepts and use cases into clear, accurate documentation for internal and external audiences.
• Review existing documentation to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and outdated content.
• Develop and manage a documentation backlog and roadmap to enhance usability and adoption.
• Collaborate with software engineers, service owners, product stakeholders, and SMEs to ensure accuracy.
• Create tutorials, implementation guides, use-case docs, diagrams, knowledge articles, and other content to enable API adoption.
• Develop eLearning materials and video-based content when appropriate.
• Support marketing and sales with developer-focused collateral and website content.
• Establish and promote documentation standards and governance processes.
• Drive ongoing improvements to developer experience through content strategy.
