Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas seeks a Senior Animal Technician to autonomously apply advanced animal husbandry techniques for specialized colonies. Duties include care, quarantine, and barrier-sustained areas with documentation and training responsibilities.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least 6 months as a Senior Animal Technician (or equivalent). ALAT certification is preferred. Full-time with benefits and day shifts are offered.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED or Vocational school required.
  • Six months experience as a Senior Animal Technician or equivalent experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in care and management of breeding colonies, conditioning and barrier-sustained animals with accurate records.
  • Maintain computer databases and departmental records for monitoring and surveillance programs.
  • Euthanize and dispose of animal carcasses following established procedures.
  • Assist in SPF animal colony maintenance and production with sterile techniques.
  • Provide training to Animal Technicians and Animal Care Attendants as directed.
  • Prepare reports to faculty and supervisors on animal colonies, equipment, and facility use.
