Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX is seeking a Senior Animal Technician to autonomously provide advanced animal husbandry techniques across specialized colonies, including quarantine, isolation, biohazard, conventional or barrier-sustained areas.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, six months of related experience, and ALAT certification preferred. You will maintain records, assist in SPF colonies, train staff, prepare reports, and support compliance with SOPs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or Vocational school.
• Six months experience as a Senior Animal Technician, or equivalent.
• ALAT certification preferred upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Care and management of specialized animal programs, including breeding colonies and barrier-sustained animals; maintain records.
• Maintain computer databases and assist in monitoring and surveillance; follow SOPs and record keeping.
• Euthanize and dispose of animal carcasses per procedures.
• Assist SPF colony maintenance and use sterile techniques to maintain health.
• Provide training to Animal Technicians and Animal Care Attendants.
• Prepare reports to faculty and supervisors on animal colonies, equipment and facility use.
• Maintain attendance and staffing; may supervise other Animal Technicians; weekends as needed.
• Perform tasks of Animal Care Attendant, Animal Technician and Senior Animal Technician as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
