Job summary

TEGNA Inc. in Knoxville, TN, seeks a Senior Android Developer to lead features on our native Android news apps. You will build with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, mentor peers, and tackle performance and architecture challenges. The role blends in-office collaboration with remote work in a hybrid setup.

You’ll drive code quality, CI/CD improvements, and cross-team collaboration across multiple stations, applying modern Android practices and scalable design.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 3+ years building native Android apps with Kotlin.
• Experience with Jetpack Compose and modern Android UI development.
• Strong understanding of MVVM and Clean Architecture.
• Experience with Retrofit/OkHttp and JSON.
• Experience with local persistence (Room) and Git workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship features for native Android app using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Own significant areas of the codebase and resolve complex product issues.
• Write efficient, reusable code within a Clean Architecture, multi-module structure.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and drive solutions.
• Mentor other developers through code review and technical guidance.
• Collaborate with designers, product, and business managers to translate requirements.
• Help maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and release processes.
• Rapidly learn new technologies and adapt to changing needs.
