Job description

Role Summary: Ford is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer focused on execution and issue resolution to drive Bluetooth connectivity on the Android-based software stack for our next-generation in-vehicle infotainment systems. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for implementing and maintaining the Android Bluetooth stack, resolving issues surfaced during Apple CarPlay and Android Auto certification/testing, driving rapid bug triage on general connectivity issues, and successfully executing Bluetooth SIG certification processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Implement, integrate, and maintain the Android-based Bluetooth stack (e.g., AOSP Bluetooth/Fluoride, Android framework layer) for automotive infotainment systems.

Investigate, triage, and resolve issues identified during Apple CarPlay and Android Auto certification and compliance testing.

Take ownership of rapid bug triage, root-cause analysis, and issue resolution for general Bluetooth connectivity and interoperability challenges between the vehicle and various mobile devices.

Drive and execute the Bluetooth SIG certification process (e.g., Bluetooth Qualification Body submissions, test case verification) for vehicle software and hardware releases.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (infotainment, QA, OEM/Tier 1 partners, Apple/Google certification bodies) to ensure software stability and maintain high-quality in-vehicle connectivity experiences.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on software development experience focused on Bluetooth technologies within an Android environment.
  • Proven experience implementing and debugging the Android Bluetooth stack (AOSP, Fluoride, Android framework/HAL layer).
  • Direct experience with Apple CarPlay and/or Android Auto certification, testing, and issue resolution.
  • Direct experience executing and successfully completing Bluetooth SIG certification.
  • Strong debugging skills with a proven track record of rapid issue resolution in complex automotive connectivity environments.
  • Hands-on experience with over-the-air packet sniffers and protocol analyzers (e.g., Ellisys, Frontline, Wireshark) for deep-level debugging.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Bluetooth profiles relevant to automotive use cases (A2DP, HFP, AVRCP, PBAP, MAP, etc.).
  • Experience working directly with Apple's MFi program or Google's Android Auto/Android Automotive certification requirements.
