Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Lead Engineer, AI Software, to join the AI Transformation and Experience team. The role focuses on designing and building AI-enabled software used enterprise-wide and in government programs.

You will lead the development of scalable AI systems, mentor engineers, and drive best practices in testing, deployment, and observability. The position is remote in the United States with full-time hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 7+ years of experience.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including production systems.
• 3+ years of AI/ML experience.
• 5+ years designing/building cloud solutions on AWS/Azure/GCP.
• Experience owning software deployments and production operations.
• Strong fundamentals in API design, testing, security, and observability.
• US Citizenship and ability to obtain Public Trust.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop advanced AI software applications with scalability and integration in enterprise systems.
• Develop and modify systems software for operating hardware and running applications.
• Develop descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive insights/algorithms.
• Apply statistics, ML, and optimization using code for modeling and tooling.
• Lead technical implementation, mentor juniors, and guide team practices.
• Design, build, ship, and operate production AI-enabled software systems.
• Own difficult technical problems from exploration to deployment and improvement.
• Write high-quality code and contribute APIs, services, tests, and tooling.
• Build AI-enabled apps integrating models, data, cloud services, and existing systems.
• Apply automated testing, CI/CD, observability, security, reliability, and performance improvements.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies through hands-on experimentation.
