Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Lead AI Systems Engineer to join the AI Transformation and Experience team. You will design, build, test, deploy, and improve software with AI components integrated into enterprise and government systems.

This hands-on role emphasizes strong software engineering first, with AI as an augmenting capability. You will mentor engineers, lead implementation efforts from exploration to production, and ensure scalable, secure, observable systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including production systems.
• 3+ years of AI, ML, or related tech experience.
• 5+ years designing/building solutions in cloud environments.
• Experience owning software through deployment, production operations, troubleshooting, maintenance, evolution.
• Strong fundamentals in system and API design, testing, source control, secure development.
• Experience with AWS/Azure/GCP or similar cloud platforms.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, observability.
• Ability to learn and apply emerging AI technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop advanced AI software applications with scalability and enterprise integration.
• Build and modify systems software for operating hardware and internal apps.
• Develop descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive insights/algorithms.
• Lead technical implementation in design environments, mentoring engineers and guiding practices.
• Write high-quality software and contribute to code, APIs, services, tests, infrastructure, tooling.
