Job summary

Maximus seeks a Lead Engineer, AI Software to join the AI Transformation and Experience team. You will design, build, and operate production AI-enabled software across enterprise and government programs, ensuring reliability, security, and scalable APIs.

You will mentor engineers, own deployments from development through production, and apply CI/CD, observability, and modern engineering practices to deliver practical AI solutions at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field with 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 7 years building and supporting production software systems.
• 3 years experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, or related tech.
• 5 years designing or building solutions in cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Experience owning software through deployment, production operations, and maintenance.
• Strong fundamentals in API design, testing, source control, and secure development.
• Ability to communicate decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, ship, and operate production software systems with AI/ML capabilities.
• Own difficult technical problems from exploration through deployment and troubleshooting.
• Write high-quality software and contribute to code, APIs, services, tests, and tooling.
• Build AI-enabled applications integrating models, data, cloud services, and existing systems.
• Apply automated testing, CI/CD, observability, security, and performance optimization.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies through hands-on experimentation for practical value.
• Create reusable components and patterns to help other teams.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and problem solving.
