Job summary

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) seeks a Senior AI Subject Matter Expert (SME) to guide AI adoption, governance, and development across the Integrated Warfare Systems Division. Based out of Mount Laurel, NJ, Arlington, VA, or San Diego, CA, you’ll lead AI-enabled engineering and create safe, scalable AI solutions for defense systems.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years of experience, deep AI expertise, and the ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences, while ensuring security

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of full-time experience in engineering or software domains.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
• Experience with generative AI technologies and AI tooling in software development.
• Ability to evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security and performance.
• Advanced knowledge of agent-based development, LLM APIs, RAG architectures, and vector databases.
• Experience deploying AI capabilities in DoD-like environments with security considerations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME on AI, generative AI, LLMs, ML, and AI capabilities for DoW software.
• Lead AI components integration into complex DoW software environments.
• Prototype AI developer tooling and evaluate emerging AI tooling.
• Define AI-augmented engineering standards, patterns, and best practices.
• Develop NLP pipelines and AI-enabled dashboards and insights.
• Mentor teams on generative AI usage in development workflows.
• Collaborate with PMs and engineers to document requirements and deliver AI solutions.
