Job summary

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) seeks a Chief AI Subject Matter Expert (SME) to guide AI adoption across the Integrated Warfare Systems Division, based in Arlington, VA, Mt. Laurel, NJ, or San Diego, CA. The role requires active Secret U.S.

clearance and on-site presence with 3+ days in office. The SME will lead AI strategy, governance, and development in an AI-augmented environment, leveraging generative AI, LLMs, and ML to improve reliability, security, and mission assurance for DoW

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, data science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of full-time professional experience.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
• Demonstrated curiosity and experimentation with emerging AI technologies.
• Daily use of generative AI coding tools.
• Ability to evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and performance.
• Expert level with agent-based development workflows, LLM APIs, RAG, vector databases, and model evaluation.
• Understanding of secure SDLC and AI security risks.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the organization’s SME on AI, generative AI, LLMs, ML, and emerging AI capabilities.
• Lead integration of AI components into complex DoW software environments.
• Lead integration of AI models and services into mission-critical software systems.
• Demonstrate AI-enabled engineering techniques to improve productivity and software quality.
• Define and evolve AI-augmented engineering standards, patterns, and best practices.
• Develop intelligent data processing and NLP pipelines.
• Deliver AI-enabled dashboards, interfaces, and insights.
• Develop proofs-of-concept and demonstrations for AI use cases.
• Prototype and evaluate AI developer tooling and autonomous coding agents.
• Use generative AI tools as a core part of daily software engineering workflows.
• Mentor teams on AI in development workflows.
• Identify lifecycle areas accelerated by AI and automation.
