Job summary

8am is seeking a Senior Engineer to design and build AI-powered features for our expanding suite of products. You will collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to deliver end-to-end AI-driven capabilities in production on a modern SaaS platform.

In this role you’ll own hybrid search architectures, combine keyword and vector retrieval, and advance RAG and LLM-based services. The position offers a hybrid setup with a path to leadership as we scale across Europe and the U.S.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in professional software engineering, backend or search infra.
• Experience building search/retrieval systems for large document stores.
• Hands-on with search platforms like Elasticsearch / OpenSearch / Solr.
• Experience with hybrid search (keyword + vector).
• Strong Python development skills and data processing pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers to translate problems into AI-powered search solutions.
• Design and build hybrid search systems for large datasets.
• Develop pipelines for document ingestion, embedding generation, and ranking.
• Partner with Data team to optimize data for retrieval.
• Implement AI-powered services combining LLMs with search infra.
• Write high-quality Python code for search pipelines and evaluation.
• Support deployment and monitoring of AI search services.
