Job summary

Vannevar is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a deep passion for search and information retrieval. You will drive a state-of-the-art search system across our platforms, working closely with ML and product teams to surface mission-critical information for users.

You will design the technical strategy for search, improve latency and relevance, and apply emerging technologies to boost index quality and retrieval performance across products.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend software development experience.
• 3+ years in search, information retrieval, or related fields.
• Architecting, developing and deploying reliable, scalable systems.
• Expertise in IR, NLP and ML concepts (indexing, ranking, tokenization, vector search).
• Hands-on with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch; familiarity with evaluation frameworks.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, leadership and communication skills.
• U.S. Person status is required to access U.S. data systems.
