Job summary

Pearson seeks a senior AI leader to drive production AI capabilities for learner intelligence, personalization, and recommendations. You will design AI/LMM/RAG solutions and build reusable platform components across Pearson products. The role focuses on end-to-end delivery, governance, and scalable AI operations.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with Product, Engineering, Design, and Data Science teams, and evaluate new AI technologies to balance quality, safety, latency, and cost.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and deploying production AI/ML systems.
• Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, and knowledge graphs.
• Proficiency in Python and modern software engineering (APIs, CI/CD, testing).
• Experience designing scalable AI platforms on AWS or similar cloud.
• Containerization, orchestration, and IaC for production deployments.
• Experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, LangChain, or similar.
• Strong collaboration with product, engineering and business stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/Data Science or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, deployment, and operation of production AI capabilities supporting learner intelligence, personalization, recommendations, knowledge graphs, and AI-powered learning experiences.
• Design and deliver Generative AI, LLM, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic AI solutions with measurable product impact.
• Build reusable AI platform components, services, APIs, and workflows that accelerate AI adoption across Pearson products.
• Own the end-to-end AI delivery lifecycle from experimentation to production monitoring and improvement.
• Establish scalable MLOps and AIOps practices for model training, deployment, observability, governance, reliability, and cost.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Design, Learning Science, and Data Science teams to deliver impactful AI capabilities.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and architectures balancing quality, safety, latency, scalability, and cost.
• Establish best practices for responsible AI, model evaluation, prompt engineering, agent evaluation, and AI governance.
• Mentor engineers and data scientists to elevate AI engineering capabilities across the organization.
• Communicate technical strategy, architecture decisions, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders.
