Job summary

WRITER is seeking an AI research scientist to helm a high-impact research program focused on large language models, agentic reasoning, and enterprise-scale system capabilities. You will influence planning, multi-step reasoning, tool use, and production deployment across cross-functional teams.

The role is hybrid and based out of San Francisco or New York City, reporting to the VP of AI research. Senior, Staff, and Sr. Staff levels with compensation scaled to experience are available.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on ML research experience with large language models.
• PhD in Computer Science, ML, NLP, or equivalent research track record.
• Publication record at NeurIPS/ICML/ACL/ICLR or similar.
• Experience shipping production-grade ML systems and research-to-product translation.

Responsibilities

• Lead an independent research agenda on LLMs and agentic systems across early hypothesis to deployment.
• Design large-scale post-training experiments (SFT, RLHF, RL this, DPO) for multi-step reasoning.
• Develop evaluation benchmarks and scalable data pipelines for high-quality training signals.
• Shape model architecture and training roadmap with research-eng and product teams.
• Publish at top venues and mentor junior researchers and engineers.
