Job summary

NextGear Capital is seeking a Senior Mobile Engineer to build native mobile experiences across the organization. You will work with AI-assisted development across the full SDLC to accelerate delivery and improve quality, while maintaining high standards for security, performance, and user experience.

The role requires collaboration with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and other mobile developers, with three days per week in Carmel, IN.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with 4 years' experience (or equivalent alternative combinations).
• AI-augmented development mindset with proactive use of AI tools across the SDLC.
• Mobile ecosystem awareness including REST APIs, backend services, and data models.
• Strong problem solving and architectural judgment for complex, ambiguous problems.
• Native mobile development experience (Android/Kotlin/Jetpack Compose and/or iOS/Swift).
• Fluent with Git workflows and collaborative development practices.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with AI agents and tools to build, test, and deploy native mobile software across the SDLC.
• Contribute to prompt engineering experiments and share tool usage insights.
• Engage in design and development discussions to define outcomes from a mobile engineering perspective.
• Assist with feature/element estimation in terms of inputs, resources, and timelines.
• Develop and run unit and system tests with secure coding practices.
• Provide technical support for existing and new features within mobile apps and system structures.
• Use observability tools to monitor app health and diagnose production issues.
• Ensure mobile design and code align with architectural standards (Kotlin/Jetpack Compose).
• Understand backend APIs and data contracts affecting mobile app behavior.
• Document best practices and repeatability for future work.
• Update stakeholders on status and challenges; participate in code reviews.
• Render working software each sprint to meet the definition of done and deliver value.
