Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Sr. Distinguished AI Engineer to join the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team in a remote-friendly, multi-location capacity.

You will help design and scale AI systems, participate in architecture discussions, and champion responsible AI practices across engineering disciplines. The role emphasizes building scalable AI platforms, improving performance, and delivering production-ready GenAI capabilities for Capital One’s customer and enterprise experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI plus at least 10 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies; or Master’s degree plus at least 8 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies.
• At least 10 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products that change how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One.
• Contribute to north star platform architecture, publishing living diagrams and canonical APIs covering agent orchestration, RAG pipelines, prompt libraries and multi-tenant policy enforcement.
• Evaluate and harden agentic frameworks (LangGraph, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, CrewAI, LlamaIndex) to meet enterprise SLAs and enable rapid app adoption.
• Develop an end-to-end GenAI SDK, CLI and starter kits to spin up secure, observable agentic workflows quickly; reduce prototyping to production timelines by ~30%.
• Support trust and safety with central guardrail services, including prompt firewalls, content-filter hooks, red team harnesses and audit APIs.
