Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineer 4 to join Gen AI Platform Services in San Francisco, CA. You will design and deliver AI-powered products, including agents, guardrails, evaluation, and memory components, partnering with engineers, researchers, and product managers.

You will optimize training and inference, manage SLOs, ensure governance and security, and mentor junior staff. A strong ML, system design, and cloud background are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/AI/EE/CE or related field with 4+ years in AI/ML.
• At least 4 years of programming experience in Python, Go, Scala, CUDA or Java.
• Experience leading AI systems development and cloud deployment.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross‑functional teams to deliver AI-powered products changing how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including model training, inference, agents, guardrails, and observability.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies (AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace, VectorDBs, PyTorch) to build scalable systems.
• Optimize training and inference to improve latency, throughput, and cost for large-scale production AI.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One.
• Define and maintain SLOs for AI reliability, including latency and model performance drift.
