Job summary

ShiftKey is seeking a Staff AI Engineer to own the AI infrastructure layer, including the knowledge platform, hosting of AI agents, and retrieval stack. You will inherit solid foundations and shape the next generation of the platform, with high autonomy and cross-team impact.

You will architect agentic infrastructure on AWS, build multi-step, tool-using AI systems, and define the platform API surface while managing cost governance in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including production AI/LLM systems.
• Experience with retrieval engineering: hybrid search, re-ranking, HyDE.
• Hands-on with agentic frameworks and multi-step reasoning loops.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, or TypeScript and ability to ramp into another language.
• Experience operating AI workloads on managed cloud platforms (AWS Bedrock, Azure AI Foundry).
• Terraform authoring and provisioning.
• Observability for AI systems: metrics, logging, and cost monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Evolve the AI knowledge platform, from retrieval and synthesis to organization-wide scale.
• Architect and operate agentic infrastructure on AWS with cost governance and observability.
• Design graph-based, relationship-aware retrieval across data sources for multi-hop queries.
• Partner with product engineering to define the AI platform API surface.
• Build reference agent implementations for incident triage and customer support.
• Own the AI infrastructure cost model and monitor spend and latency.
