Job summary

The New York State Department of Health seeks an AI Governance Lead to oversee evaluation, monitoring, and governing AI models across the agency. You will partner with Security, Privacy, Legal, and Procurement to implement consistent intake and risk-scoring, and maintain the internal AI registry with clearly documented rationales.

Qualifications

• Seven years in AI, data, or IT roles with firsthand AI discipline experience.
• Experience evaluating AI tools against security, privacy, and interoperability standards.
• Ability to translate frameworks into practical intake checklists and approvals.

Responsibilities

• Lead intake and risk scoring with cross-functional teams.
• Oversee AI registry and document technical rationale for decisions.
• Identify ethical risks and propose mitigations for AI tools.
• Support incident reviews when AI tools misbehave or err.
• Serve as technical reviewer for AI tool requests and architecture reviews.
• Assess third-party AI/ML solutions for transparency and bias risks.
• Advise business units on AI pilots and scale plans.
• Translate NIST AI RMF, HIPAA, and other frameworks into SOPs.
• Develop policies, SOPs, and review workflows for AI adoption.
• Deliver staff training on responsible AI use and risk awareness.
