Smartsheet is hiring Sr. Software Engineer II - AI Engineering (Remote Eligible). You will architect and deliver production-grade AI agents and workflows, partnering with Engineering and AI Platform teams across cloud environments.

You will mentor engineers, define best practices for model governance, and stay ahead of the evolving AI landscape. The role offers remote eligibility within the US and a base salary range of $175k–$245k.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years working directly with LLMs in production.
• Deep experience with prompt engineering and context engineering.
• Strong knowledge of RAG architectures and retrieval evaluation.
• Experience building or extending LLM evaluation frameworks.
• Fluent in Python and data-heavy environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and build production-grade LLM-powered agents and workflows.
• Develop prompts, RAG pipelines, and evaluation frameworks.
• Operate AI systems on cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into AI solutions.
• Mentor engineers on ML best practices and production considerations.
• Establish governance and responsible AI standards.
