Job summary

Bausch + Lomb is hiring an experienced Lead AI Engineer, Knowledge & Semantic Systems in Bridgewater, NJ. You will build and maintain data foundations powering enterprise AI, including semantic models, knowledge graphs, and retrieval capabilities to deliver scalable, compliant insights across the organization.

The role collaborates with data engineering, AI, analytics, and business teams to improve decision-making, with a hybrid schedule (up to 2 days remote) and a strong emphasis on governance

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS, data eng, or related field.
• 5+ years in data engineering, analytics, semantic modeling, or knowledge engineering.
• Expertise in SQL, dimensional data modeling, and metric governance.
• Hands-on with semantic layer tools (dbt Semantic Layer, MetricFlow, Cube, LookML, AtScale).
• Experience designing knowledge graphs, ontologies, and graph databases (Neo4j).
• Experience with vector databases, retrieval systems, and search optimization.
• Understanding of LLM-enabled solutions, including RAG, tool calling, MCP.
• Strong Python development skills and CI/CD, testing, version control, containerization.
• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, AWS/Azure, dbt, Airflow, or Dagster.
• Knowledge of data governance, security, lineage, and compliance.
• Proven ability to collaborate across business and technical teams.
• Experience in Agile environments (Scrum, SAFe).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the governed semantic layer for commercial data.
• Codify metric definitions and enforce consistency across domains.
• Prevent semantically meaningless queries via layer constraints.
• Extend the commercial ontology and knowledge graph across entities.
• Apply entity resolution across sources for agents and identity management.
• Maintain taxonomies, vocabularies, and synonym maps for disambiguation.
• Encode temporal validity for territory realignments and changes.
• Own the retrieval stack end-to-end: embedding, indexing, and tuning.
• Monitor recall, precision, groundedness, and citation accuracy.
• Manage reindexing, model migration, and vector infra costs.
• Expose capabilities via MCP servers, contracts, and schemas.
• Collaborate with Applied AI Agents engineers and upstream teams.
• Diagnose grounding failures and remediate layers as needed.
• Operate a federated contribution model and curate canonical models.
• Coordinate with Data Eng, IT, Privacy, and Compliance on access policy.
