Job summary

MITRE seeks an Artificial Intelligence Engineer to develop, deploy, and transition AI/ML capabilities for DoD and Intelligence Community sponsors. You will collaborate with government partners to improve mission planning and decision-making while operating within a federated MITRE environment.

The role requires hands-on software development, data science, and machine learning proficiency, with on-site work and Top Secret/SCI eligibility. Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement are essential.

Qualifications

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Hands-on experience designing, building, deploying, and transitioning prototype systems for DoD or Intelligence Community sponsors.
Experience developing AI/ML solutions, including traditional machine learning, deep learning, and large language model (LLM)-enabled applications using frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Codex/Claude CLI, LangChain, or equivalent.
Experience developing scalable data processing and analytics solutions using distributed computing frameworks such as Spark, Hadoop Distributed File System, Delta Tables, or similar technologies.

Responsibilities

Design, build, deploy, and transition AI/ML capabilities to support national security missions.
Conduct applied research and rapid prototyping in collaboration with government stakeholders.
Develop tactical, operational, and strategic capabilities for DoD/IC sponsors in MITRE's federated environment.
Lead technical teams and communicate risks and impacts clearly to sponsors and stakeholders.
