Job summary

MITRE seeks a Lead Agentic Software Engineer to design, build, secure, and operate mission-focused software systems and data platforms using state-of-the-art agentic and AI-enabled techniques. You will lead development, advise sponsors, and help establish guardrails and best practices for responsible AI adoption.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree or 6 years with a Master's or 3 years with a PhD.
• Entrepreneurial, innovative, and collaborative spirit and curiosity to push boundaries of software development.
• Strong Python proficiency including secure coding, automated testing, and maintainable design patterns.
• Experience using agentic/AI-assisted development tools and integrating them into SDLC.
• Experience designing guardrails for AI-enabled engineering.
• Experience establishing quality/evaluation practices for AI-generated outputs.
• Must have an active Secret clearance and be eligible for Top Secret.
• On-site work: minimum 3 days/week.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, secure, and operate mission-focused software systems and data platforms.
• Stand up and operate agentic development toolchains integrated into engineering practices.
• Prototype mission capabilities with agentic methods and mature into production systems.
• Define and enforce guardrails for agentic engineering.
• Establish evaluation gates for AI-generated artifacts and CI checks.
• Architect and operate distributed cloud systems (AWS/multi-cloud).
• Design APIs, backend services, and data pipelines.
• Automate DevSecOps with AI-aware controls and repeatable releases.
• Produce documentation, runbooks, and evidence for AI-assisted engineering.
• Lead enablement: mentor teams and drive process improvements.
