Job summary

Groundswell, a premier technology integrator, seeks an engineer to own AI-enabled capabilities end to end—from discovery through production and operation. You will lead from requirements to delivery, balancing accuracy, cost, and latency while mentoring others and communicating clearly with executives and engineers.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building and shipping production software.
• At least 1 year of hands-on experience building AI-enabled apps with LLMs, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and agent patterns.
• Ability to own a capability end-to-end from ambiguity to production.
• Experience evaluating AI system quality, including metrics and deployment decisions.
• Strong programming in Python, TypeScript, or SQL across the full application, not just the AI layer.
• Proven ability to lead requirements conversations with non-technical stakeholders and translate them into a technical plan.
• Ability to explain tradeoffs between accuracy, cost, latency, and complexity to engineers and executives.
• Excellent written communication for client-facing design rationale and documentation.
• Ability to work independently through ambiguous requirements and drive delivery with minimal direction.
• Willingness to teach and mentor others.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain government security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead requirements conversations with business and technical stakeholders, defining workflow, decision criteria, and success metrics.
• Define the technical approach and defend it, selecting the AI pattern most appropriate for the problem.
• Recommend against AI when simpler solutions suffice, including changes to processes or interfaces.
• Define measurable success criteria before build, including accuracy targets and acceptance conditions.
• Build the complete capability end-to-end, including prompts, retrieval, APIs, data handling, and UI.
• Develop evaluation sets from real data and iterate based on results, deploying when ready.
• Make architecture decisions balancing quality, cost, latency, and security.
• Operationalize capabilities in the client environment with governance, logging, and monitoring.
• Help clients understand possibilities and shape the next phase of work.
• Mentor engineers new to AI through code reviews and guidance on patterns.
• Maintain knowledge of models and tooling to reuse patterns across the team.
• Shift between client delivery, internal product work, and rapid proofs of concept as needed.
• Produce clear documentation of solution scope, limitations, validation, and error handling.
