Job summary

Reboot Rx is a nonprofit startup focused on affordable cancer treatments through repurposed generic drugs. We seek a Lead AI Engineer to architect, build, deploy, and run our AI and data platform in a remote US role, collaborating with biomedical scientists to advance science.

You will own full-stack development (React frontend, Python backend), cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and trustworthy AI systems with guardrails, retrieval-augmented generation, and human-in-the-loop review.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or quantitative field (advanced degree preferred).
• Experience with biomedical or clinical data and knowledge bases (e.g., DrugBank, Open Targets, UMLS/MeSH).
• Track record of building AI/ML systems used by others; production experience with LLM apps and multi-agent orchestration.

Responsibilities

• Partner with scientists to understand workflows and unmet needs; design and build innovative AI solutions.
• Shape technical strategy and roadmap for data and AI platform.
• Design, build, deploy, and run full-stack apps: React frontend, Python backend, cloud infra, data pipelines.
• Build agentic AI systems: multi-agent LLM pipelines with tool use, RAG, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop review.
• Architect and run AWS cloud infrastructure (Bedrock, Step Functions, ECS/Fargate, Lambda, Aurora/PostgreSQL, S3, OpenSearch) as code with security and observability.
• Communicate technical work to non-technical audiences and co-author publications with collaborators.
• Provide light IT support and mentorship to a small technical team.
