Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineer 4 to join the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences team in McLean, VA. You will design, train, and deploy AI software components, including foundation models, inference, and multi-agent workflows, using Open Source and SaaS AI tools.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in engineering, mathematics, and AI systems, with 4+ years of Python/Go/Scala/CUDA/Java experience and a track record of scalable AI deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 4 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or a Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 2 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies
• At least 4 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components
• Leverage a broad stack of Open Source and SaaS AI technologies
• Optimize foundation model performance, cost, latency, and throughput
• Define and maintain the architectural roadmap for foundational AI systems
• Own end-to-end architecture for complex AI systems with observability and ethics alignment
• Define and maintain SLOs for AI reliability
• Collaborate with infrastructure to optimize GPU/TPU utilization
• Lead technical reviews for new AI deployments
• Mentor engineers on scalable design and production translation
