Job summary

Capital One is hiring an AI Engineer 4 in McLean, VA. You will partner with engineers, researchers, and product managers to build real-world AI-powered banking solutions. Design, train, deploy, and monitor AI systems, using PyTorch, HuggingFace, VectorDBs, and AWS services.

You will optimize performance, ensure governance and observability, and mentor junior staff. The role requires strong Python/Java/Scala/CUDA skills, 4+ years of AI/ML experience (or 2+ with a master's), and a track record

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 4 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies.
• Master's degree plus at least 2 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies.
• At least 4 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including model training and inference.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies (AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch).
• Optimize foundation model performance, latency, and cost for production AI systems.
• Contribute to the technical vision and roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One.
• Own end-to-end architecture for complex AI systems with observability and ethics alignment.
• Define and maintain SLOs for AI reliability (latency, uptime, drift).
• Collaborate with infrastructure to optimize GPU/TPU utilization and inference pipelines.
• Lead cross-functional reviews for new AI deployments ensuring security and governance.
• Mentor junior engineers on scalable design and production translation.
