Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineer 4 (AI Foundations) to help build responsible and reliable AI systems for banking applications. The role focuses on foundation model training, inference, agents and multi-agent workflows, vector search, guardrails, governance, and observability within a cross-functional team.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years of AI/ML development experience, strong Python/Java/Scala/CUDA skills, and a track record of scalable AI deployments on cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or Master’s) in CS/AI/EE/CE or related fields with relevant AI/ML experience.
• At least 4 years of experience programming with Python/Go/Scala/CUDA/Java.
• Experience leading AI system development with trade-offs on cost, latency, throughput and accuracy.
• 6 years of experience deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms (AWS/GC/Azure).

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products that change how associates work and customers interact with Capital One.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including model training, inference, and governance.
• Leverage open source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch.
• Invent state-of-the-art foundation model optimization techniques for performance improvements.
• Own end-to-end architecture for complex AI systems ensuring maintainability and ethical alignment.
