Job summary

BMC Software, Inc. is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to architect, build, and harden agentic AI systems powering our products. You will own end-to-end architecture, from model lifecycle and infrastructure to agent orchestration and production-grade deployments.

In this hands-on, full-stack role you will drive evaluation and experimentation, set technical direction, and mentor teams as you translate complex architectures into reliable, observable systems that deliver measurable business value.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of building and operating scalable, production-grade software with recent depth in AI/ML.
• Proven experience designing, building, and shipping agentic AI systems in production.
• Hands-on experience with evaluation and experimentation frameworks for LLM/agentic systems (offline + online evals).
• Strong agentic engineering skills with modern agent/LLM frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture for agentic systems end to end: reasoning, planning, tool calling, multi-agent coordination, routing, memory, and human-in-the-loop handoffs.
• Prototype and productionize new agentic capabilities; write production-quality code and set engineering bar.
• Build and integrate across the stack: RAG, knowledge services, model/tool routing, and orchestration runtimes.
• Stand up evaluation strategies with offline data, CI/CD gates, and online evaluators for safe deployments.
• Define metrics and build observability to measure task success, grounded-ness, safety, and cost across multi-turn interactions.
• Set technical direction and mentor engineers, translating complex architectures for partners and customers.
