Job summary

EY is seeking a senior AI/Applied AI engineer to build durable, verifiable agents that operate safely in complex enterprise workflows. You’ll design execution loops, tools, context, and runtime controls that keep agents deterministic and steerable.

This role sits at the intersection of applied AI, distributed systems, and product engineering, delivering real-world, long-running agent work with production systems ownership, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
• 9-12+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong software or applied machine-learning engineering with ownership of production systems.
• Hands-on evidence of shipping large-language-model applications, agents, or complex model-driven workflows.
• Programming depth in Python, TypeScript, or another production language.
• Applied AI patterns: model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, tool use, evaluation of variable behavior.
• Distributed execution: asynchronous state, concurrency, retries, and failure recovery.
• Identity and controls: access boundaries and scoped authority for apps or workloads.
• Production learning: traces, metrics, logs, incident analysis, and durable remediation.
• Travel and On-site requirements: up to 50% travel and hybrid office.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model and architect agent frameworks with deterministic steps.
• Build dependable tools with clear contracts, validated outcomes, narrow authorization, and recoverable errors.
• Engineer agent behavior across planning, routing, delegation, stopping, retry, and handoffs.
• Create durable context by combining instructions, user state, retrieval, memory, and environment feedback while preserving relevance and provenance.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities, credentials, budgets, and emergency containment.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests that measure verified task success, tool use, recovery, human takeover, and prohibited actions.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state, checkpointing, safe retries, versioned releases, rollback, and graceful degradation.
• Make behavior observable with end-to-end traces and replay for diagnosing failures and improving systems.
• Protect user control by designing clear intervention points for inspection or redirection.
• Build shared capability by partnering across product, platform, knowledge, security, and evaluation teams.
