Job summary

Expedia Group in San Jose seeks a senior AI/ML researcher to design and deploy agentic AI systems that plan, reason, and act with external tools. You’ll build orchestration frameworks and evaluate reliability, latency, and safety across production scenarios, collaborating with product and research teams.

You will advance state-of-the-art agent architectures, mitigate prompt-related risks, and stay ahead of AI trends to shape travel experiences at scale.

Qualifications

• PhD, MS, or BS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent professional experience
• 5+ years of related industry experience
• Experience designing and deploying agentic or multi-step AI systems in production or research settings
• Strong proficiency in Python and ML frameworks; experience with LLM APIs and orchestration libraries
• Experience integrating LLMs with external tools, APIs, and structured data sources
• Knowledge of prompt engineering techniques including chain-of-thought and few-shot prompting

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evaluate multi-step agentic AI systems
• Research and implement state-of-the-art agentic architectures
• Develop and maintain agent orchestration frameworks
• Integrate LLMs with external tools, APIs, and code execution environments
• Define evaluation frameworks for agentic systems across benchmarks and production scenarios
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and research to translate requirements into designs
• Identify and mitigate risks in agentic systems, including safety considerations
• Stay current with evolving agentic AI landscape and inform technical direction
