Job summary

Karman Space & Defense is seeking a Senior Mechanical/Aerospace Engineer to lead the design of aerospace structures, mechanisms, and systems from concept to validation in Mukilteo, WA. You will provide technical leadership across programs, mentor junior engineers, support prototypes, testing, and ensure compliance with customer specs and DoD standards.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's in mechanical or aerospace engineering, 6+ years of aerospace/defense design experience, proficiency in

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
• Typically 6+ years of experience designing aerospace/defense systems.
• Proven experience designing robust hardware that passed qualification testing.
• Proficient in SolidWorks and GD&T.
• Strong mathematical skills and understanding of material properties.
• Ability to read drawings and follow instructions.
• Familiarity with common office and engineering tools.
• Knowledge of design-based military and commercial specifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design activities across programs and support the engineering group.
• Conceptualize and design structures, mechanisms, and mechanical systems to meet requirements.
• Perform engineering calculations, analyses, and tolerance stack-ups.
• Verify calculations and analyses performed by others.
• Lead design efforts on systems and subsystems across programs.
• Support proposals and quick-turn concept development via CAD models.
• Generate bills of materials and complete drafting packages.
• Support prototyping, assembly, testing, and qualification.
• Mentor junior engineers.
