Position Summary
Senior Engineer – Control Systems within the Radar Analog and Power Department (RAP). Requires design, product and production support experience, electronics knowledge, and hands‑on laboratory skills.
Responsibilities
- Develop technical solutions for high-performance actuation system and motion control challenges.
- Work autonomously with limited oversight, manage small projects, and provide guidance to other professionals.
- Support detailed actuation system design, test design, and execution; engage with systems or software engineering functions.
- Cover product lifecycle from conceptualization through prototyping, manufacturing, integration, verification testing, and production support.
- Apply systems engineering principles to solve complex actuation problems and influence multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Drive execution of product development projects; collaborate with team/technical leads and IPT lead; interact with internal/external customers and leadership.
Qualifications – Must Have
- Bachelor's degree in STEM and minimum 5 years of relevant experience, or Advanced Degree and minimum 3 years.
- Experience with electromagnetic or electrohydraulic control actuation systems.
Qualifications – Preferred
- 5 years of experience with actuation systems or motion controls.
- Experience developing solutions across product lifecycle (proposal, design, manufacture, integration, test).
- Ability to estimate project effort and deconstruct tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication for technical, non‑technical, and management audiences.
- Experience with feedback control systems, control theory, system sizing, testing, integration, design‑to‑manufacturing, kinematic and dynamic simulation.
- Experience developing system models using MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience with Hardware‑In‑the‑Loop tools such as dSpace.
- Experience designing test equipment for electromechanical systems under high load and rate.
- Experience in Failure Investigation Teams (FRACAS, FRB, RCCA).
- Experience with control actuation systems using permanent magnet brush and brushless DC motors, including drive types (trapezoidal, sine, FOC).
- Experience with actuation communication buses, electromechanical actuators (gears, ball‑screws, leadscrews), position sensors, electronic controllers, power amplifiers.
- Basic understanding of packaging electromechanical systems for grounding, shielding, and noise control.
- Familiarity with command‑line interfaces, Unix, networks, and software.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field.
- Prior experience as engineering team lead (hardware, electrical, or integration).
- Existing U.S. DoD security clearance.
