Job summary

The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Division of Insurance seeks an experienced actuarial professional to support rate filings, financial analyses, and regulatory reviews. The role involves evaluating actuarial plans, participating in hearings, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

The unit provides statistical analysis, model evaluation, and guidance across insurance products while coordinating with stakeholders and public data sources.

Qualifications

  • Eight (8) years of professional work experience in a regulated insurance company, in a consulting actuarial firm, in governmental work regulating insurance companies, or in other financial or insurance entities by performing and providing support with actuarial work.
  • Associate's Degree in actuarial science or related field AND six (6) years of professional work experience in a regulated insurance company, in a consulting actuarial firm, in governmental work regulating insurance companies, or in other financial or insurance entities by performing and providing support with actuarial work.
  • Bachelor's Degree in actuarial science or related field AND four (4) years of professional work experience in a regulated insurance company, in a consulting actuarial firm, in governmental work regulating insurance companies, or in other financial or insurance entities by performing and providing support with actuarial work.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing rate filings and rating plans for conformity to statutes, regulations, and actuarial standards of practice.
  • Participating in rate and network hearings if issues arise in rate review.
  • Managing external actuarial consultants for rating questions as needed.
  • Responding to requests from legislature, budget analysts, and other parties with timely reports.
  • Developing statistical models and researching claim cost utilization for premium rate changes.
  • Developing procedures for future divisions reviews of research models.
  • Reviewing health plan requirements under PPACA and state laws for compliance.
  • Developing regulations and guidance for Colorado standardized insurance plans.
