Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a part-time Recreation Aide to assist in planning and delivering meaningful programs for residents. You will collaborate with the Recreation Manager and Executive Director, maintain records, and support activities and meal service as needed.

You should have a recreation-related college diploma, experience with seniors, and strong communication skills. Valid driver’s license and background check are required. We offer a supportive, values-driven workplace.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent.
• Experience working with seniors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
• Valid provincial driver's license to transport residents by van.
• Vulnerable Sector Check (within six months) or willingness to obtain one.
• Smart Serve and Food Handlers Certificates.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for residents, with Recreation Manager and Executive Director.
• Maintain department records including assessments and program evaluations.
• Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers and staff.
• Attend in-service education to stay current on elderly care trends.
• Participate in team meetings to plan resident-centered activities.
• Facilitate residents' scheduled and pre-arranged outings.
• Assist with assessment of resident activity levels.
• Prepare, carry out and evaluate daily activities.
• Assist with meal services as required.
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults.
• Uphold Extendicare's values and Code of Conduct.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
